Does your country have a Rio+20 preparatory committee?
Chile has held Rio+20 preparatory meetings between different government agencies with civil society, private sector, and smaller regional governments.
Has your country completed a sustainable development review?
Chile has not conducted a sustainable development review since Rio 1992. Agenda 21 was so large that is was difficult to coordinate/agree on what exactly to review and work on.
Is your country planning on announcing new initiatives at Rio?
Chile is pushing for the strengthening of “Principle 10” of Agenda 21 in collaboration with Colombia.
What is your vision for success at Rio+20?
Chile feels that wealthier countries should honor sustainable development commitments to poorer countries, because countries such as Zambia have done a lot with limited resources.
Chile believes that IPR tenures should be reconsidered to enable access to innovation.
Chile would like to see countries go beyond setting conditions and create common but differentiated standards for sustainable development, so that all countries can maximize social and economic development aspirations.
