Indonesia holds interdepartmental meeting consisting of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of National Planning, and others.
Has your country completed a sustainable development review?
Indonesia incorporates sustainable development actions into national development planning. It also holds high level dialogues on institutional framework, youth and children (in cooperation with UNDESA), and the green economy (in cooperation with UNDP).
Is your country planning on announcing new initiatives at Rio?
President Yudhoyono declared that, for the sake of food security, we need to ensure the health of our oceans and coasts. He committed to strengthen Indonesia’s efforts to build a “blue economy” that will ensure sustainable growth with equity in all oceans and coastal areas. He reaffirmed his leadership of the Coral Triangle Initiative for coastal livelihoods, food security and climate change and outlined a multipronged approach to recognize the value of nature for coastal communities and Indonesia’s economy. Indonesia would like to see renewed political commitment as a result of Rio+20.
What other major activities are happening in your country at the subnational, corporate, and civil society levels for Rio+20?
In July 2011, Indonesia hosted a high-level dialogue that focused on improving the institutional framework for sustainable development with the goal of drafting concrete proposals to be presented at Rio+20.
In September 2011, the country organised the Tunza International Children and Youth Conference on the Environment that brought together more than 1,000 youth participants from around the world to generate input for Rio+20.
