Does your country have a Rio+20 preparatory committee?
Italy convened a group of 250 representatives of civil society in January 2012 to discuss sustainable development issues. Furthermore, consultations among different ministers and government institutions are taking place, connecting both European and international affairs.
Has your country completed a sustainable development review?
Italy's sustainable development review process started in 2007, in parallel with European Union initiatives.
Is your country planning on announcing new initiatives at Rio?
Currently, there is an open dialogue on corporate social responsibility and greening the industrial process has commenced with global enterprises. A document provisionally entitled “A Green Economy Agenda for Italy” is currently under preparation.
Italy and the United States recently announced the launch of Lighting India, which will to bring modern lighting services to two million people by the end of 2015, in affiliation with The Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (Global LEAP).
What is your vision for success at Rio+20?
Stronger engagement with all countries would contribute to make Rio+20 a success. In addition, streamlining the text to a more concise format would deliver a message that is understandable to all.
